Probation period: 3 months
Salary: £25,000 - £28,000 Full time equivalent (3 days a week)
Potential for bonus: depending on thresholds of sales
Role Summary
Curatorial & Digital Sales Manager, for Hypha Curates is a pivotal role, responsible for the day-to-day management and strategic growth of the organisation's commercial exhibition and sales platform. This role requires a dynamic blend of curatorial expertise, sales drive, robust logistical management, and comprehensive communications strategy . The successful candidate will be responsible for meeting defined sales targets to ensure the financial viability of Hypha Curates. Following a successful initial period of sustained growth and target achievement, the organisation offers the potential for performance-based bonuses when pre-agreed sales thresholds are surpassed. The core mission remains ensuring the seamless execution of all exhibitions (physical and online) while aggressively pursuing sales opportunities to support the wider charitable mission of Hypha Studios.
Key Responsibilities
Exhibitions and Curation
Exhibition Management: Manage the full lifecycle of all invited physical exhibitions and online curated collections, ensuring alignment with the CEO’s strategic vision.
Open Calls: Lead the execution of open calls in collaboration with invited external curators.
Artist Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for all artist enquiries related to Hypha Curates exhibitions and sales.
Partnerships: Manage and coordinate partnerships with other art organisations to expand exhibition reach and opportunities.
Internal Coordination: Liaise with the Artist Manager (Hypha Studios) to effectively programme and schedule exhibition spaces.
Event Oversight: Oversee the successful planning, invitation process, and execution of private view events and gallery openings.
Sales and Financial Management
Sales Targets: Directly responsible for achieving set annual and quarterly sales targets for the Hypha Curates platform.
Sales Strategy: Proactively create sales opportunities for all supported artists and artworks, driving revenue for the charity.
Sales Handling: Deal with all incoming sales enquiries and manage the end-to-end logistics for sales transactions.
Performance Bonus: The organisation offers the potential for performance-based bonuses should the candidate meet defined sales targets and surpass pre-agreed sales thresholds.
Shipping: Liaise directly with shipping companies to coordinate the safe and timely transport of sold artwork.
Finance Liaison: Work closely with the bookkeeper to ensure accurate and efficient sales and finance processes are followed.
Problem Resolution: Manage and resolve any logistical or sales-related issues that may arise.
Communication, Marketing, and Brand Growth
Website Management: Oversee the curation, content, and daily management of both the Hypha Studios and Hypha Curates websites, ensuring staff adherence to formatting and updates.
Content Strategy: Develop and implement the website content strategy, including collections and curatorial narratives. Ensure the Hypha Curates website is constantly refreshed with new works and collections.
Social Media: Lead the social media strategy for both Hypha Studios and Hypha Curates to maximise audience engagement and sales opportunities.
Newsletter: To work with CEO & Director of Hypha Studios on newsletter and communications to the wider network of Hypha artists.
Brand & Design: Provide creative guidance and support for the overall design and visual imaging of both Hypha Studios and Hypha Curates.
Copywriting & Press: Write, edit, and guide copy for websites, press releases, and wider marketing collateral.
Brand Expansion: Strategically expand the reach, brand recognition, and audience of Hypha Studios and Hypha Curates across all relevant sectors: artists, property, media, local authorities, and political bodies.
Technical Liaison: Work with web developers to oversee website growth, updates, and error resolution.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications and Experience
Knowledge of Hypha Studios: An awareness of the charitable work of Hypha Studios and the organisation’s approach to supporting culture across the UK.
Gallery/Sales Experience: Proven sales experience within a commercial gallery or successful online art sales platform, with a track record of meeting sales goals .
Industry Experience: Proven experience in gallery management, exhibition coordination, or a related role within the contemporary art industry.
Curatorial Skills: Strong curatorial foundation and a keen understanding of current contemporary art discourse and market trends.
Organisational Skills: Highly efficient organisational and project management abilities, with a meticulous approach to detail and logistics.
Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, essential for collaborating with artists, staff, patrons, and partners.
Digital Acumen: Demonstrated proficiency in social media strategy, content creation, and general website management.
Software Skills: Experience with Canva (or similar design tools) and proficient use of Google Drive .
Desired Qualifications and Experience
E-Commerce: Experience using Shopify or similar e-commerce platforms for art sales.
Financial Acumen: Experience with budget management and financial processes.
Art Handling: Familiarity with art handling, conservation best practices, and international shipping requirements.
