The GFO Investment Practice includes investment professionals fully dedicated to GFO clients in sales and relationship management, investment strategy, multi-manager / OCIO and portfolio management solutions. Today, the practice has over $196 billion in assets under management, with more than $62 billion under advisement in a combination of discretionary and non-discretionary assets.

As a London based Investment Relationship Manager in the GFO Investment Practice, you will service existing EMEA investment clients, pursue cross sell investment opportunities with EMEA asset servicing clients, and work with GFO Sales to development new business. Northern Trust Asset Management's (NTAM) investment capabilities include Fixed Income; Active, Passive and Quant equities; Real Assets in SMAs and UCITS vehicles; OCIO and Private Investment and Hedge Fund offerings in the marketplace focusing on Family Office clients.

You must be able to work effectively and collaboratively with all areas of business within Northern Trust including your NTAM, GFO and GFO Investment Practice colleagues in the U.S.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Represent Northern Trust as the market presence in a major international market center, in this case, Europe and the Middle East
  • Grow the use of NTAM's capabilities in EMEA for Family Offices.
  • Deliver sales presentations, seminars, and consulting meetings with professional financial advisors and appropriate centers of influence.
  • Be a contributing member of a team that thrives on partnership, innovation, and execution.
  • Maintain a diverse and healthy business in regards, but not limited to products and clients.
  • Initial contact point of for all investment related discussions with GFO clients. IRM will be assigned existing GFO clients with responsibility to manage and expand investment relationship, including through delivering thought leadership, proactive ideas and facilitating investment exchanges.
  • Provide investment sales support for new client situations in collaboration with GFO new business development team, including profiling investment opportunities, bringing in the appropriate subject matter experts and ensuring the execution of investment related deliverables in the sales process.
  • Responsible for understanding a client's investment philosophy and overall investment program and positioning Northern Trust Asset Management proprietary solutions and the GFO Investment Advisory Practice to clients and prospects. We use a consultative approach with a focus on how to complement existing expertise of clients and prospects who may have mix of investment staff and other internal and external advisors.
  • Lead with knowledge of GFO investment trends and best practices in order to evidence dedicated focus of our teams and effectively position solutions. Communicate Northern Trust strategic and tactical asset allocation, economic and market views to clients and prospects. Facilitate Investment Exchanges between groups of clients to increase networking and share best practices and ideas among clients and prospects.
  • Responsible for an individual annual revenue goal to meet team and group targets.
  • Responsible for coordination of regular performance reviews for clients in conjunction with portfolio managers and strategists.
  • Assists with request for proposal responses and fee proposals for existing and prospective clients.
  • Contributes to development and execution of marketing events for GFO clients. Identify implementation opportunities and marketing/collateral needs, which will help drive adoption and usage of NTAM's capabilities.
  • Maintains on-going relationships with 3rd party field consultants, making them aware of our investment capabilities
  • Maintains knowledge of investment products and services by initiating frequent contact with other financial institutions, partners and keeping abreast of laws and regulations affecting the industry.
  • Maintains knowledge of competitors and their products and services.
  • Expected travel - up to 50%
Necessary Qualifications
  • Candidates should have 5 - 10 years of investment experience.
  • Knowledge of areas of investment management such as fixed income, active, passive and factor based equity investing, alternatives, asset allocation, portfolio construction and ESG investing. Multi-asset class experience a positive.
  • CFA Charterholder and appropriate licenses preferred but not required.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
