Senior Project/Contract Manager (NEC Focus)
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Senior Project/Contract Manager to join our team. This pivotal role will act as the Project Manager under the NEC4 suite of contracts, ensuring successful project delivery, robust contractual compliance, and driving performance and financial benefits.
The successful candidate will be a client-focused, results-driven professional responsible for the robust management and delivery of complex projects (including those with values between £10m to £100m). This role requires a collaborative individual with proficiency in established project management processes, particularly within a construction or engineering context, and a deep understanding of the NEC contract philosophy.
Key Responsibilities
NEC Contract & Commercial Management
Act as the Project Manager for assigned contracts under the NEC4 suite, executing all required PM duties.
Lead the management of project contracts, ensuring all NEC contractual requirements are met throughout the project lifecycle.
Proactively manage the assessment and formalisation of responses to issues that may lead to Compensation Events, ensuring the application of Quantity Surveyor good practice in the formalisation of such responses.
Ensure effective management of the contractor's Defined Cost for Option E contracts and rigorous adherence to the payment/valuation process for Option B contracts.
Embed contract management excellence across the function, delivering whole life value through suppliers across design, construction, materials, and professional services frameworks.
Establish, monitor, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) and contractual metrics.
Deliver performance and financial benefits through effective contract execution and monitoring.
Apply NEC principles when dealing with subcontractors who are not formally on the NEC framework.
NEC Project Control & Reporting
Accept or otherwise the contractor's submitted programme and manage its daily assurance, including CPI (Cost Performance Index) and SPI (Schedule Performance Index) assurance.
Work collaboratively with the Quantity Surveyor to produce and report on Cost to Date and forecasting monthly, including managing the monthly preparation of Cost to Complete reports.
Monitor and report on contractor performance outputs, reliability post-overhaul, financial KPIs, and programme progress.
Contribute to the management and updates of Project Organisation Structures, Project Execution Plans (PEP), and Project Quality Management Plans (PQMP).
Manage comprehensive project documentation, ensuring all project-related documentation is complete, accurate, and up to date, particularly for formal contract communications.
Project Leadership & Stakeholder Management
Provide essential Project/Programme Management support to the Project Director and Lead Design Engineers as required.
Develop and maintain positive relationships with contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders, fostering a spirit of mutual trust and cooperation essential to the NEC contract.
Collaboratively integrate within multi-disciplinary project teams to foster cooperation, including addressing issues such as clash detection.
Review project proposals to determine feasibility and make recommendations for changes to meet requirements.
Conduct project/contract post-mortems to identify and implement opportunities for process improvement.
Essential Skills & Experience
Proven experience operating as a Project Manager under the NEC suite of contracts (preferably NEC4).
Demonstrable commercial acumen and experience in managing large-scale contracts >£50m, including both target cost (Option E) and priced contracts (Option B).
Proven proficiency in implementing robust project management processes across project lifecycles.
Strong experience in a client-focused, results-driven approach to project delivery.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to work effectively as a collaborative team player
