Job Title: Sales Director

Type of Employment: Full Time, Permanent position

Location: United Kingdom (Clevedon) or Remote (National travel required)

Purpose of Role: Reporting to the Managing Director, the role holder will lead, and hold managerial responsibility for, all aspects of the Sales functions within the UK, ensuring that it meets applicable strategic and operational business objectives. The role holder is responsible for the development and success of the UK division, including the achievement of all financial, operating, and people-related goals.

Internal

  • The ability to lead a business function and manage a team, in addition to participating as a team member within the UK Management team.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and collaboration ability to effectively interface with other operational and financial functions within the UK division.
  • Thrives in a challenging and increasingly international work environment where the ability to manage, influence, and effect change across the full scope of the UK Division’s sales activities is key to success.

External

  • First-hand experience in business development discussions and negotiations with customers and other sales channel partners in a similar business-to-business industry.
  • Possess advanced skills in presenting, report writing, communication, and people/relationship management.

Specific Technical Expertise

  • Coreskills in all commercially related business, financial and sales disciplines.
  • Strong demonstrated ability to lead and manage a sales team in a business-to-business environment including a deep understanding of sales process, negotiation, customer relationship management and key account management.
  • Ability to understand and clearly present technical information and manage distribution channels to market.
  • Experience within the water utility sector is ideal, with a strong understanding of industry requirements; alternatively, relevant experience in process-related sectors (e.g. pumps, gearboxes, industrial process equipment) where technical value-based sales are required will also be considered.
  • Proven track record of opening new markets and delivering sustained sales growth.
  • Experience of technical value-based selling.

Qualifications and Proven Ability

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in senior sales leadership, operating at or just below Director level.
  • Minimum degree level education in a relevant subject is essential.
  • Skills and aptitudes required to provide a deep understanding of complex principles and practices applicable across a department/division.

  • Strong leadership and people management capabilities with credibility across the business.
  • Drive, perseverance, diplomacy, bias for change and action, results focus, and international communication and social skills.
  • Assertive and commercially driven. Comfortable making decisive calls and leading teams to ambitious targets.
  • Ambitious career outlook.

The Sales Director role demands regular customer interaction and a sense of urgency, reinforced by leading by example.

General: National travel is a requirement.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Responsible for short and long-term strategic development of all Sales activities across the UK division in line with the targeted requirements of the business and of the customer.
  • Researching, analysing and setting price points to maximise sales and maintain healthy profit margins.
  • Leading and managing the direction, priorities and performance of the respective Sales teams.
  • Managing the appointment, development and performance of sales channel partners to best serve target markets in the UK.
  • Definition, development and actioning of a strategic plan for UK Sales, both existing and identifying new sales strategies, to integrate into the total Europe Business Plan, including:
  • Driving, monitoring and reporting of key performance indicators.
  • Development of continuous improvement plans for the business in terms of sales performance.
  • Developing sales plans, budgets and forecasts.
  • Providing market intelligence and ensuring the needs of the UK business are communicated and supported in product requirements and marketing services, including market support activity (e.g. exhibitions, conferences).
  • Acting to promote health and safety of all personnel, including directing and promoting progress of safety programs and procedures, promoting safety awareness, and participating in the Group Safety Procedure.
