Salesman / Estimator Specialist Roofing & Cladding

Core Responsibilities

1. Client Engagement & Sales

Meet with potential customers (commercial, industrial, agricultural, and domestic).

Understand client requirements for roofing, cladding, or re-cladding projects.

Present material options (e.g., metal sheets, rainscreen, composite panels, fibre cement sheets).

Negotiate prices and terms.

2. Estimating & Quotation

Read and interpret architectural drawings, site measurements, and specifications.

Calculate material requirements, labour costs, and installation time.

Factor in waste, overlaps, fixings, insulation, and weatherproofing details.

Prepare accurate, professional quotations (per m², linear metre, or per project).

3. Technical Knowledge

Understand various roofing and cladding systems, including:

Metal sheeting (corrugated, box profile, standing seam)

Timber cladding (e.g., Yorkshire boarding)

Composite insulated panels

Fibre cement boards

Flashings, gutters, and trims

Be aware of building regulations, wind/snow loading, and fire ratings.

4. Project Coordination

Liaise between customers, suppliers, and the installation team.

Ensure materials are delivered on time and within budget.

5. Business Development

Maintain and grow a client base through networking, trade shows, and referrals.

Keep updated on new products, price trends, and competitor offerings.

Strong communication and persuasion skills.

Ability to read technical drawings and construction plans.

Good numerical ability for cost calculations.

Knowledge of construction materials and installation techniques.

Organised, with good time management.

Negotiation skills for closing sales and securing supplier terms.

We would ideally be looking to employe someone on a self employed basis to begin with

Typical Basic Range (UK)

Basic: up to £45,000 per year (depending on experience).

Commission/Bonuses: % can be negotiated

The candidate would be working out of our Cladscreen Ltd office in north Manchester most days with possible options for working from home some days.
