Sales Director

The regional operation employs c140 FTE's across multiple locations and requires a high calibre Commercial Director candidate to work closely with the Regional MD to manage, oversee and drive the company's commercial function in line with business and strategic growth objectives. The Sales Director will lead the creation of the business's future commercial strategy; responsible for 7 direct reports and a broader team of 56 across sales, product management & procurement. The role will be responsible for both building on relationships with the existing customer and sub‑contractor network and leveraging the business's strengths to unlock new opportunities and customers in identified growth sectors.
Responsibilities
- Author and direct the company's future UK and Ireland commercial strategy in line with the company's vision and growth ambitions.
- Develop commercial budgets and associated KPIs aligned with the agreed commercial strategy.
- Provide direction, leadership and mentoring to the commercial team.
- Actively participate as part of the leadership team to steward the business to future growth.
- Lead senior customer and sub‑contractor dialogue and build relationships with decision makers and influencers within existing and target organisations in the UK and target international markets.
- Strengthen existing customer relationships to enhance retention and maximise long‑term value.
- Identify and unlock new customer and market opportunities to accelerate company growth and build market share.
- Develop strong cross‑functional working relationships with leaders across the UK & Ireland business and across the group.
- Drive a culture of continuous performance improvement across the commercial team to ensure company competitiveness amidst changing market dynamics.
- Inspire the team and the broader organisation as a cultural ambassador and work to develop individual development plans that fuel team retention and growth.
Qualifications
- Proven and extensive commercial leadership experience, ideally within distribution, industrial products & services into technical, manufacturing or engineering sectors.
- Experience and success of brand differentiation & growth in competitive market segments.
- Skilled in strategic commercial planning and shaping ambitious growth goals.
- Experience in mentoring or managing a successful commercial team.
- Ability to engage and positively influence customers and target organisations at a senior level.
- Commutable to Birmingham HQ and to customers and across other sites as required.
